Behram

Among the Thuggee, one figure stands out as the most infamous: Behram. Active in the early 19th century, Behram is believed to have personally strangled over 900 people, making him one of history’s deadliest serial killers. His mastery of the rumal and his ability to evade capture for so long earned him a legendary status within the Thuggee cult. Behram was deeply devoted to Kali, viewing his killings as a form of divine service. His reign of terror came to an end in the early 1830s when he was captured by British authorities. Behram’s confessions provided a rather unique insight into the Thuggee’s rituals and methods in their unwavering devotion to Bhadra Kali. Behram himself was hanged in 1840, marking the end of one of the most notorious chapters in the Thuggee’s history.
